Apparently (corn) starch is <a href=\"https:\/\/onlinelibrary.wiley.com\/doi\/abs\/10.1111\/j.1525-1470.1984.tb01138.x\">ok<\/a> though.<\/li>\n<!-- \/wp:list-item -->\n\n<!-- wp:list-item -->\n<li>Any oil, because it can break down latex and is not always toy safe either &#8211; however besides that it can work<\/li>\n<!-- \/wp:list-item -->\n\n<!-- wp:list-item -->\n<li>Most preservatives can act as irritants, and often are only safe for external use<\/li>\n<!-- \/wp:list-item --><\/ul>\n<!-- \/wp:list -->\n\n<!-- wp:heading -->\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Things to consider<\/h2>\n<!-- \/wp:heading -->\n\n<!-- wp:list -->\n<ul><!-- wp:list-item -->\n<li>pH (water based lubes): for genital use in the range of 4.5 to 5.5, for anal use in the range of 5.5 to 7.5<\/li>\n<!-- \/wp:list-item -->\n\n<!-- wp:list-item -->\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/dangerouslilly.com\/lube-guide\/\">Osmolality<\/a> (water based lubes): should be around 300 mOsm\/kg<\/li>\n<!-- \/wp:list-item --><\/ul>\n<!-- \/wp:list -->\n\n<!-- wp:heading -->\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Oil based formulations<\/h2>\n<!-- \/wp:heading -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>Not for use with condoms and some toys!<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>I&#8217;ve already experiment with a whipped oil recipe, I&#8217;ve tried <a href=\"https:\/\/www.humblebeeandme.com\/super-simple-whipped-shea-butter\/\">this<\/a> formulation and it works well. I could experiment with the following:<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:list -->\n<ul><!-- wp:list-item -->\n<li>Different oils (e.g. coconut, shea, sunflower oil, olive oil)<\/li>\n<!-- \/wp:list-item -->\n\n<!-- wp:list-item -->\n<li>Different amounts of starch <\/li>\n<!-- \/wp:list-item --><\/ul>\n<!-- \/wp:list -->\n\n<!-- wp:heading -->\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Water based formulations<\/h2>\n<!-- \/wp:heading -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>Typical recipe:<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:list -->\n<ul><!-- wp:list-item -->\n<li>Water<\/li>\n<!-- \/wp:list-item -->\n\n<!-- wp:list-item -->\n<li>Humectants. These are the ones I could find that are not on the avoid list:<!-- wp:list -->\n<ul><!-- wp:list-item -->\n<li>Pure aloe vera<\/li>\n<!-- \/wp:list-item -->\n\n<!-- wp:list-item -->\n<li>PDO (1,3-propanediol) as a vegetable-based replacement for propylene glycol &#8211; not well researched<\/li>\n<!-- \/wp:list-item -->\n\n<!-- wp:list-item -->\n<li>However, because of osmolality, perhaps a humectant (other than aloe) is not a good idea anyway<\/li>\n<!-- \/wp:list-item --><\/ul>\n<!-- \/wp:list --><\/li>\n<!-- \/wp:list-item -->\n\n<!-- wp:list-item -->\n<li>Gelling agents. These are the ones I could find that are not on the avoid list:<!-- wp:list -->\n<ul><!-- wp:list-item -->\n<li>Xanthan gum<\/li>\n<!-- \/wp:list-item -->\n\n<!-- wp:list-item -->\n<li>Carrageenan (E407)<\/li>\n<!-- \/wp:list-item -->\n\n<!-- wp:list-item -->\n<li>Hydroxyethyl cellulose &#8211; also a humectant<\/li>\n<!-- \/wp:list-item -->\n\n<!-- wp:list-item -->\n<li>Carbomer<\/li>\n<!-- \/wp:list-item -->\n\n<!-- wp:list-item -->\n<li>Agar<\/li>\n<!-- \/wp:list-item --><\/ul>\n<!-- \/wp:list --><\/li>\n<!-- \/wp:list-item -->\n\n<!-- wp:list-item -->\n<li>Preservatives, e.g.:<!-- wp:list -->\n<ul><!-- wp:list-item -->\n<li>Potassium Sorbate<\/li>\n<!-- \/wp:list-item -->\n\n<!-- wp:list-item -->\n<li>Citric acid<\/li>\n<!-- \/wp:list-item -->\n\n<!-- wp:list-item -->\n<li>Sodium Benzoate &#8211; might <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC9003278\/\">not<\/a> be safe, but probably <a href=\"https:\/\/exsens-usa.com\/blogs\/your-body-your-pleasure\/lube-lessons-glossary-of-common-sex-lube-ingredients\">fine<\/a><\/li>\n<!-- \/wp:list-item -->\n\n<!-- wp:list-item -->\n<li>Vitamin E (Tocopheryl Acetate) <\/li>\n<!-- \/wp:list-item --><\/ul>\n<!-- \/wp:list --><\/li>\n<!-- \/wp:list-item -->\n\n<!-- wp:list-item -->\n<li>Other stuff, e.g.:<!-- wp:list -->\n<ul><!-- wp:list-item -->\n<li>NaOH &#8211; to adjust pH<\/li>\n<!-- \/wp:list-item -->\n\n<!-- wp:list-item -->\n<li>Lactic acid &#8211; to adjust pH<\/li>\n<!-- \/wp:list-item -->\n\n<!-- wp:list-item -->\n<li>NaCl, KCl, CaCl &#8211; to adjust tonicity\/osmolality<\/li>\n<!-- \/wp:list-item --><\/ul>\n<!-- \/wp:list --><\/li>\n<!-- \/wp:list-item --><\/ul>\n<!-- \/wp:list -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>I could get concentrated aloe with preservatives already added, Xanthan gum and hydroxyethyl cellulose, and then experiment. Perhaps try to reverse engineer <a href=\"https:\/\/goodcleanlove.com\/products\/bio-nude-personal-lubricant?variant=13005587316778\">BioNude<\/a> or just try <a href=\"https:\/\/menspleasures.com\/how-to-make-a-homemade-water-based-lube\/#3_Pure_Homemade_Aloe_Vera_lube\">this recipe<\/a>. <a href=\"https:\/\/phallophilereviews.com\/personal-lubricant-ingredients-lists\/\">Here<\/a>&#8216;s an overview of some commercial formulations ordered by how safe they are.<br>All of these ingredients are CG approved, so I could use them for hair products too.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>If I want to use both HEC and xanthan, the ratio HEC:xanthan should probably be around 2:1. The xanthan-only recipe uses 0.66% xanthan and 15% aloe. The BioNude formulation does not give percentages, but <a href=\"https:\/\/www.drugs.com\/otc\/1283849\/utimi-water-based-personal-lubricant.html\">this<\/a> HEC-based lubricant uses 1.27% (w\/w) HEC and no xanthan, 8.5% (v\/v) glycerin, 5.5% (v\/v) propylene glycol. Another one uses <a href=\"https:\/\/dailymed.nlm.nih.gov\/dailymed\/drugInfo.cfm?setid=9037ca36-5406-63f0-e053-2995a90a86cb\">1.6%<\/a> HEC and 20% butylene glycol.
